Ways to RememberWe may become wiser with age; however, we also begin to forget the mundane details of everyday life as our memory begins to fade an the  years pass by.  Fortunately, we can ccrss train our brains and keep our minds sharp with some simple tricks. 

Here is what the experts say are the newest strategies guaranteed to keep your memory quick, agile, and sharp:

  • Check Your Iron.  A drop in iron can affect your recall abilities. Iron helps the neurotransmitters, essential for memory to function properly – your brain can be sensitive to low amounts
  • Turn off Background Noise.  Multi-tasking has become a way of life.  However, di you know that listening to the news while you answer your emails can limit how well you are able to recall both?  It is important to pay undivided attention to whatever you rally want to recall later.
  • Meditate.  Meditation is shown to sharpen  your memory.  How?  Meditation, like sleep, reduces sensory input, and the quite time provides time fo the neurons to process and solidify new information and memories.
  • Control Your Cholesterol.  When plaque, caused by bad cholesterol, builds up in blood vessels, it can hinder circulations to the brain, depriving it of essential nutrients.  The result:  memory problems.
  • Check Your Meds.  One side effect of taking many prescription drugs can be an increase in memory loss.  Check for non-prescription alternatives.
  • Munch on an Apple.  Apples have just the right dose of antioxidants to raise levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that’s essential to memory.
  • Rev Up Your Heart.  Good old-fashioned exercise helps to keep your memory sharp.
  • Believe in Your Brain.  Forget about forgetfulness.  Any anxiety you feel about your occasionally wayward memory later in life may actually make it worse
