New Jersey becomes first state to require flu shots for preschoolers

New Jersey on Friday became the first state to require flu shots for preschoolers, under rules approved by Health Commissioner Fred M. Jacobs.

But a North Jersey pediatrician said the state's action was, at best, "misinformed," and that flu vaccine is potentially unsafe and ineffective for children under two years old.

"It's a disastrous decision," said Dr. Lawrence D. Rosen of Hackensack University Medical Center. "This is embarrassing for the state to be the first one to make this a mandate," said Rosen, chief of pediatric integrative medicine at Hackensack.

Contrary to state health officials' assurances, most flu vaccine contains toxic, nerve-damaging mercury-based preservatives which could endanger children's health, Rosen said.

Additional comments by Anne Dachel:

Congratulations to Northjersey.com for giving us the opinion of New Jersey pediatrician Dr Lawrence Rosen who opposes the new flu shot requirement for children in preschool and day care in New Jersey.

As someone who has watched this story unfold in the news over the last few days, I've seen the press continually tell us that only parents claim that the horrendous amount of mercury in the flu vaccine is harmful. Many experts also link the autism epidemic now affecting one in every 150 children in the U.S., including one in every 94 boys to unsafe vaccines. This should be a major concern in New Jersey where one in every 94 children has autism--specifically one in every 60 boys.

The opinion of medical experts who agree that mercury is still a deadly neurotoxin is left out of most stories where we are told state officials advocate mercury-laced vaccines. Dr. Rosen is an outspoken critical of the move by state health officials. His voice deserves to be heard as Bob Groves reports.

I hope Northjersey.com continues to give us fair and balanced coverage of this controversy.
